Two Young Girls Attempt Suicide in Separate Incidents in Kabul
Local sources in western Kabul have reported that two teenage girls attempted suicide in separate incidents.
In the first case, on Tuesday, 27 Jauza (17 June 2025), an 18-year-old girl in the Pul-e-Khushk area attempted to end her life by consuming rat poison. According to sources, this was due to her opposition to a forced marriage. Her family rushed her to a hospital, and her condition is reported to be stable.
In the second incident, a 14-year-old girl in the Barchi Tank-e-Til area attempted to jump from the eighth floor of a shopping center but was stopped by local residents and handed over to her family. The motive behind this attempt remains unclear.
These incidents follow another case on Saturday, when a young woman in Kabul’s 13th district took her own life by hanging.
Reports indicate that poverty, unemployment, domestic violence, and severe restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women are major factors contributing to the rise in suicides in Afghanistan.
