Explosion of War Remnant Ammunition in Nangarhar Claims Woman's Life

Local sources in Nangarhar province have reported that a woman was killed and a child injured due to the explosion of a war remnant shell.

The incident occurred around 11:00 AM on Saturday, (21 June 2025), in the village of "Shawli" in Shirzad district. According to sources, the woman and child were targeted by the explosion while grazing livestock in mountainous areas.

The woman, approximately 45 years old, succumbed to severe injuries during transfer to a hospital. The eight-year-old child was also injured in the incident, but their medical condition remains unclear.

Local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the matter.

According to a recent report by the mine-clearance organization "Halo Trust," over 80 percent of mine victims in Afghanistan are children.
